Our Senior Prefect team for 2017.18

The Head Girl/Head Boy interviews were an incredible challenge this year – the quality of the students was impressive. Students were interviewed by Mrs D Bryant, Mr W Jenkins, Mr D McDonald and Canon David Miller, for the position of Head Girl and Head Boy. It was an incredibly difficult task for the panel to make the final decision, but after much deliberation, the panel decided that Freya Tatham would be the new Head Girl, with Lucy Treloar as the Deputy Head Girl, along with Thomas Fogg as Head Boy and Ryan Williams as the Deputy Head Boy. Results days Results will be available for collection between 9.00am – 11.30am in the Post 16 Centre on: THURSDAY 17th AUGUST 2017 - A Level Results THURSDAY 24th AUGUST 2017 - GCSE Results Specialist teachers and the Examinations Manager will be present on result day to answer any queries you may have. Chinese students visit the College

Last week, our students in the College were joined by 15 students from China. They studied a range of subjects, and accompanied students in Years 8, 9 and 10 to lessons. One of our Year 10 students, Thomas Fogg, summed up the experience saying, "Throughout last week, several students from China attended my lessons and had a taste of life as a Year 10 student in the UK. On Wednesday 19th July, Natalie Williams, one of the College's Post 16 Pastoral Support team, and Robyn Pickering, a current Post 16 student, met both Prince Charles and Camilla due to their involvement in the local community. “Team Helston” comes second in the country!

Team Helston secured 2nd place out of over 300 schools nationally who took part in the IET Faraday Challenge. The final involved both a design challenge and a presentation. In the morning, students had to design a product which included coding a 'BBC micro:bit' to enhance the performance of a Land Rover BAR boat, which had recently represented Great Britain in the America's Cup; the oldest international sporting trophy. Special Educational Needs workshop

On Friday 7th July 2017, the SEN department hosted a Parent Information Workshop for parents of students with Special Educational Needs in Years 6 and 7. This workshop provided parents will the opportunity to have an informal chat with the SEN team at the College and access the provision available. Students demonstrated various intervention programmes and were on hand to help answer any questions and discuss their experiences. The event was well attended and we received positive feedback. Students form an 'Interact' club

A group of students have recently started an 'Interact' club here at Helston Community College. Interact is a youth run club developed by the Rotary Club. It is a group of likeminded students who meet during lunchtimes to raise money and help charities. Every year, Interact fundraises for a local and an international charity, improving the lives of those in the community and those in other countries that are less fortunate than ourselves.
