Post 16 students visit the Cornwall Contemporary Gallery in Penzance

Just before half term, our Post 16 BTEC Art & Design students visitied the Cornwall Contemporary Gallery in Penzance and met a local artist, David Mankin. He took the students through a really inspiring view of his creative process and the reality of being a working fine artist. He talked about process, technique and influences and the importance of pushing forward outside of your comfort zone to find the "magic". Post 16 photography students win all the awards!

The Morrab Library recently announced the winner of their Photo Library Competition. The theme for this competition was Contemporary Life in Cornwall. We are absolutely delighted to infrom parents/carers and students that Helston Community College Photography students swept the board and won all the prizes! The winners, chosen by the members of the Morrab Library Photography Group, were Maddie, Tamsin and Matthew. The Library thought the winning images were striking and we, at Helston Community College, are all very proud of the students. We would like to congratulate all those who took part....

Students 'Make their Mark'.

The UKYP provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their voice in a creative way to bring about social change. It is made up of 300 MYP who are elected by their peers in youth elections throughout the UK and any young person 11-18 can stand for election or vote. Once elected, the MYP organise events and projects, run campaigns and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to young people. Post 16 students recieve a donation of new tools

Lee Graham from DA Giles came into college last week to donate some new plastering and brick laying tools for the Post 16 construction students. The tools were very welcome due to increased numbers on the course and have already been used. Non - Uniform Day on Friday

"Revamp the ramps" is a fundraising group organized to raise funds to replace the existing skate park at the coronation boating lake, Helston. The ramps have had years of use and enjoyment for kids of all ages, it is now time for them to be demolished in early 2019 and a new set installed. So far raised £2.000 of the £6.000 funding shortfall has been raised through community events including the skate competition day in August where lots of children were seen having a great time.
