“Team Helston” comes second in the country!

Team Helston secured 2nd place out of over 300 schools nationally who took part in the IET Faraday Challenge. The final involved both a design challenge and a presentation. In the morning, students had to design a product which included coding a 'BBC micro:bit' to enhance the performance of a Land Rover BAR boat, which had recently represented Great Britain in the America's Cup; the oldest international sporting trophy. The students designed the 'KNOT WATCH' - a training, communication and safety watch for use on board the boat.

Following the design stage, the team delivered a Dragons Den style presentation of their product, and listened to an interesting talk from a BAR Systems Engineer, on how New Zealand recently won the America's Cup in Bermuda.

The students were simply brilliant, and it was a pleasure to be with them throughout. Marie Neighbour from the Institute of Engineering and Technology said, "Your students are so talented and friendly with impeccable behaviour, they were delightful to talk to. It was a real pleasure to meet all of you".

The College would like to congratulate all of the students who took part in the final and the earlier stages of the competition.
